the 8 guardians [May. 15th, 2005|12:25 pm]
There are eight principal classes of Guardians each with many subdivisions. Some are highly realized beings, others not realized at all. Every place - every continent, country, city, mountain, river, lake or forest - has its particular dominant energy, or Guardian, as have every year, hour and even minute: these are not highly evolved energies. The various teachings all have energies which have special relationships with them: these are more realized Guardians. These energies are iconographically portrayed as they were perceived when they manifested to masters who had contact with them, and their awesome power is represented by their terrifyingly ferocious forms, their many arms and heads, and their ornaments of the charnel ground. As with all the figures in tantric iconography, it is not correct to interpret the figures of the guardians as merely symbolic, as some Western writers have been tempted to do. Though the iconographic forms have been shaped by the perceptions and culture of those who saw the original manifestation and by the development of tradition, actual beings are represented.

invisible library at the invisible college [May. 20th, 2004|10:00 pm]
[music |whitetrash shaolin - "lesson from the invisible college"]

i'm thinking about eventually establishing a library...private and available for borrowing at a price or membership fee...allowing access to a whole range of books, vinyl records, cds, dvds, artwork, etc...and maybe setup a v.i.p. section available to those random few who check out a specific list of books that are considered appropriate for v.i.p. consideration...kinda like a secret society in which the really good books that might be considered inappropriate for the community are kept hidden away...in the secret underground tunnels...hmmm...so many plans so little time...

"a tai chi lesson" [May. 15th, 2004|06:02 pm]
[music |whitetrash shaolin - "charlie bucket"]

excerpt from "the prophecy of whitetrash shaolin" at http://www.enlightentainment.com

Teachings by Lao Tzu

the students enter the quiet practice space of whitecrane shaolin martial arts school...a simple room with a padded floor and plenty of light...they begin their warm-up exercises in anticipation of their teacher's arrival...a series of body movements and heavy breathing overcomes the dojo as they run through the "teacup" exercises...knees bent in horse stance and arms sweeping grand circles with each breath...
the sifu enters...lao tzu...an ancient chinese man with bright eyes and a funny accent that hides his wisdom and cunning...

he settles into his stance and instructs the students to do so as well...knees bent and feet slightly turned inward...pelvis thrust forward and hands cupped just a few inches below the navel...shoulders drawn back and down...with the head up as if the crown were attached to the ceiling by a thread...eyes focused as the belly draws in the breath and fills the lungs completely...
lao tzu walks amongst the students and asks them to feel the energy emanating from their dan tien...the energy of their center where the muscles and viscera of the gut overlap in layers to form a powerful battery...the energy is very subtle but powerful...it feels a bit like a cross between the force one feels when trying to push two magnets together at the same poles, and the "furry" electrical static on the surface of a recently used television screen...he adjusts each student just a tiny bit here or there...moving some hands closer to the abdomen or pushing shoulders further back...then he begins to explain the power of chi in martial arts...

"when one releases their chi...the body acts like a whip or chain...from the point where the foot firmly presses against the ground...to the bones, muscles, and tendons rapidly flexing with bio-electric activation in a series of contraction and relaxation that moves through the entire body...to the point in which the mind focuses on intended impact through the hands..."

"chi is the energy that is absorbed from pushing against the earth then released by directing the body, mind, and will...a physical exterior energy integrated with more subtle interior energies that come from years of practice and focused intention..."

"move quickly and train your body to flow with this natural speed...the certainty of purpose with which you exact these movements eliminates hesitation...perfect synchronization of the entire body is required to execute total potential energy...the dragon's back is achieved when one's punch flows through the entire torso and out the arm...this is a natural whipping of the body...like a chain in which each movable joint is a link..."

"this energy can be emanated from the body...like an electric eel...as the bio-magnetic electric pulse flows through the body...to be released along with the energy of impact...sending a charge through the conducting body that it meets...connecting with it and disrupting the energy flow of one's opponent..."

"years of practice...sparring with your fellow classmates...will teach you the exact point of impact to overcome the unsuspecting opponent...the perfect advantage-point of leverage to offset balance and terminate the confrontation before most are aware that it has begun...exacted with hands unforgiving, inflexible, and hardened with callous'...gnarled tendon and bone-growth flexed by muscle into claw, beak, or fist...mudras of tough-love"

"remember the buddha's teaching on suffering...adversity is the ground against which we push towards happiness...these lessons are meant to prepare you to choose wisely...to act with courage in the face of fear and ignorance...remember that your opponent...your "enemy" is merely acting in the only way they know how, an attempt to survive - no matter how foolish...do not act with anger or hatred but do not allow others to suffer at the hands of this selfishness...this is the responsibility that you take on with this deadly knowledge...the path of the warrior..."

lao tzu drinkin' moonshine...my grandpa used to run... [Apr. 17th, 2004|04:54 pm]
[music |whitetrash shaolin - "wisdom, whiskey, & dharma"]

today in martial arts class...we worked on drunken style...or drunken monk style...where the fighter stumbles around...off-balance and out of control...but the hard part is really pushing yourself to the limits of your balance while being completely in control...a real paradox...but i can definitely see where imbibing in some alcohol prior to fighting in this drunken style could be advantageous...it's almost as if you have to get in that drunken state of mind...to really let go and inhabit the body part of the body/mind... later we actually incorporated it into our sparring...and then to two on one...where you are gained up on by two attackers...i was kickin' ass...must be all that whiskey drinkin' in my youth... drunken master would be the way to go...that's what i should really focus on...and eventually teach when i return to kentucky... i really want to set up my own school...teaching martial arts and meditation...as well has other things like visual or performance art

Fast Forward 17 years... [Aug. 10th, 2003|06:32 pm]
Darkness gives way to lights...as we zoom in on what was once the state of Kentucky...now a part of the highlands of New Appalachia...the outlying knobs are merely swampy little islands that dot the expanse of river widened by flooding from the melting icecaps...
the river has seemed to have taken over much of the landscape...many of the knob islands have become little fiefdoms or family/tribal holdings...while the river is crowded with refugees from the larger coastal cities...
floating trailerparks (built on connected river barges) and huge casino riverboats surround the flooded skyline of old louisville...while many pirates and whitetrash gangs have taken over the buildings that rise out of the waters...

focus in closer on a single casino riverboat...massive in size compared to the current riverboats...containing a large coliseum type structure on the upperdeck where the ultimate fighting entertainment events take place...these riverboats are like las vegas gone wild...sex for sale, gambling and drugs, fighting for money -all presented in a well packaged glossy production by the media mogul and televangelist jerry lee jesus lewis...his motto is that by drawing in the sinners and gaining control of them (through debt, addiction, or contractual obligation) he can help move them towards salvation or speed up their descent to damnation...with the endtimes so close, it's time to choose sides and get down to business...so when drawing out these casino riverboats, go as extreme and glossy as possible...consider the darkest side of las vegas mixed with the glossy side of mtv/disney/hollywood...pushing as many boundaries as "reality tv" might attempt in the future...(for example, these ultimate fighting events will be to the death)

focus in closer on a whitetrash gang speeding away on their swamp runner type boat towards the gang hideout on an outlying knob/island...introduce the character honey surrounded by a group of rednecks...she is obviously the girlfriend of the ringleader...and seems angry/fighting with him...as they hit shore, the boyfriend/gangleader drags honey to a spot near the trailers and outhouse...they argue in the darkness...maybe silhouette's mostly...the gang watches from their circle around a bonfire...

death of the dalai lama [Aug. 4th, 2003|10:17 pm]
continuation of first issue story line...

Kalachakra Ceremony

Images of Tibetan monks in full regalia…creating sand mandalas…chanting and meditation…

Dalai Lama seated before a huge audience (usually when addressing an audience, he is seated in meditation pose on a large platform…with his translators and attendants seated on either side…the audience should be enormous (as far as the eye can see, a sea of people as well as tv cameras)
D.L. – “before we begin this ceremony dedicated to world peace…I need to address some of the issues that this world is facing…as political leaders and private corporations continue to follow unhealthy values that lead us towards a path of destruction…we can recognize where those paths will lead us and choose a new course…pessimism seems to dominate our current state of affairs…so much so that we have begun to accept our immanent destruction…forgetting the amazing potential of human creativity in the face of impending disaster…now is the time to ask ourselves on an individual level…what can I do to make a change?”

Chase scene in Old Louisville: bicycles: rooftops [Jul. 30th, 2003|02:54 pm]
groceries/toiletries must be bought for the gang's boat trip south. no one volunteers. straws are drawn. honey loses. runt wants to try out his new transmitter's range so honey takes it along as an emergency pager
...
exiting grocery/market, honey is bumped by someone, loses her balnce, and falls down in front of the door/gate, spilling her recent purchases all over the ground. the emergency pager falls out of her pocket and is crushed by a box that falls after honey bumps into it while getting to her feet.

she straightens up and sees that she is surrounded by a semi-circle of 10 people: 2 guys/thugs on bicycles, 2 grrls/thugs, 6 more thugs.

she realizes their intentions are not noble as they are saying things like, "this outta be fun...," and, " she's a good lookin' one in't she?"...etc...

She knows she has to act quickly so in one smooth, insanely smooth, motion she has taken one of the bicyclers out with a kick to the jaw, flipped around and over, mounted the bike, and started pedaling away....impressing even herself...

the market is four or five stories up in a partially collapsed parking garage, so the chase ends up being on rooftops. she is pursued by the other bicycler. the eight remaining thugs put out the call to arms, bringing out 30 more thugs who then give chase.

honey kicks some ass, sometimes utilizing the bike as a weapon, evades the small mob, and makes them think she went down into a building or submarine plaza by casting her bike down to the bottom of a very wide and ornate staircase. when the mob descends, she doubles back and gathers up her groceries and returns to the boat...

this ain't no max headroom [Jul. 25th, 2003|09:33 pm]
mike asked wilber if we could use him as a character in the whitetrash shaolin comic...he suggested a disembodied head...

Wilber = dr. anonymous

Government corportation used a toluene spill to compromise the man they considered the top mind in the united states…understood that by reducing mitochondrial function they could put Wilber into a state of perpetual meditation…giving them an opportunity to increase his consciousness and offer the opportunity to cut short his dangerous activities…influencing world leaders and bringing about a transformation in the consciousness of the world…wilbcr was considered the dangerous man alive to those who valued the current stage of consciousness…with Wilber weakened, the plan was to use cutting edge neural implant and artificial intelligence technology to download his consciousness and use that to stay in power…of course, Wilber foiled that plan through his discovery of a way to overcome the mitochondrial problems…this secret cure was known only to those within wilber’s inner circle…however, it was rumored that it had something to do with the young people he kept in his ever-widening field of subtle and causal energy…
Gov corp. had to act quickly with the impending war with china conspiracy…so they kidnapped Wilber, faked his death, and placed him in solitary confinement beneath the pentagon…
Again, Wilber was one step ahead of them…already having developed a team of top neural implant and A.I. integral scientists…his brain was wet-wired for constant consciousness, an internal transcranial magnetic stimulator, and up/downloadable consciousness…
When Wilber was taken…placed in the tiny cell and wired to the pentagon’s main-frame…rather than be confined by it…he transcended and included it…he was imprisoned but set free…Wilber used this opportunity to contact his young personal assistant…a boy named runt who had escaped to new Appalachia when he learned of wilber’s “death”…Wilber contacted the youth as dr. anonymous (later to be revealed as a holographic image of wilber’s disembodied head)…and led him to those who could help set his gross body free…

(no subject) [Jul. 21st, 2003|02:56 am]
Bo said to Honey, "One of my first memories of Uncle Lao was when i was around 2 years old. I asked him who he was, and he said
'I am not who I think I am;
You are not who you think you are;
You are not who I think you are;
I am not who you think I am.
We are all these and more,
Always already self-transcending...'
"Until i say you in the garage today, i dont think i actually knew what he meant..." Bo's voice trailed as the roar of the Beast kicked into 4th gear. Honey's thoughts were out of control. "Who am i? That's easy, why didn't the old man just say he was his uncle. This dude is far out there." She glanced back at Bo's buddy Jah, pretending he was surfing on the back of the truck, yelling and whooping. "and this new jamacian cat definately has had too much c-weed!"
Bo laughed. "Jah just wants everyone to surf the new wave of compassion." She looked at Bo with puzzlement and shock, "Did you just read my mind, karate-boy?"
Bo said calmly: "the one mind doesn't have to be read, we share it. and karate is japanese. i'm from kentucky."

dialogue about meditation [Jul. 6th, 2003|09:33 pm]
[info]great_dame -I tried to tackle sub and obj once...lead me in painful circles...i need a brain transplant.

Those buddhists were shutting down parts of their brain that censored where they ended and the ouside world, began, hence feeling "connected". If shutting down is enlightment, then screw that.

[info]enlightentainer -ah...my understanding of buddhism seems different...not shutting down...but opening up...going beyond subject and object by transcending and including them...connection with the universe not shutting it out...i'd like to hear more of your thoughts about this...

[info]great_dame -Well! Seeing as how I'm just full of thoughts...

I was briefly relating to an article I read..where a monk pulled a rope to indicate that state of meditation...and they were all hooked up to wires and stuff...apparently, on the other side in the lab, it showed parts of the brain actually shut down? I thought that was interesting.

I actually have a little alter of my own...and read about meditation...but I find it so hard, not to..THINK. It's more a theraputic session, for me...so hard, to relax...like, the pressure! To...meditate. Sigh, So hard to explain...

I got the whole enviornment, the position, the breathing...but my thoughts take off and race. I dont think I'm cut out for meditation.

[info]enlightentainer -but you are aware of "racing thoughts"...that is the first step...a long process...i wrote quite a bit about what happens to the brain during meditation in my thesis...the best i can explain with my knowledge of neuroscience...basically, your mind operates in such a way that neural pathways are formed and become "rigid" as they process reality...meditation is a form of resetting, in a way, the brain...so that you not only become aware of the plasticity of reality and are able to choose new pathways or values or worldviews...no longer fixed in a dualistic but transcending and including them...
